Choose Scriptus if
You want a branded knowledge product on your site, not a chatbot project. You want citations and refusal as the offer, a trial or free access, and checkout on your rail. You do not want to size credit packs.
Scriptus vs Chatbase
Chatbase is what a lot of operators try first: train an agent on your files or site, embed a widget, pay a monthly plan metered in message credits. That is a real support product. It is not a done-for-you knowledge product. Scriptus builds one book or methodology bot, with identity, entitlements, and reader billing included — and someone accountable for the result.
Last researched: 4 September 2026. Chatbase prices below are from chatbase.co/pricing that day (monthly toggle). Yearly plans on that page advertised 20% off. Scriptus prices are from getscriptus.com.
You want a branded knowledge product on your site, not a chatbot project. You want citations and refusal as the offer, a trial or free access, and checkout on your rail. You do not want to size credit packs.
You have a team that will train and tune a support agent. You want a free start, a public credit grid, helpdesk and voice on higher plans, and an API. You are happy to operate credits and add-ons.
| Decision | Scriptus | Chatbase |
|---|---|---|
| Job | Done-for-you book / methodology bot on your site | Self-serve AI agents for customer support across chat, email, and voice |
| Who operates it | Scriptus builds and maintains; you own the offer | Your team trains agents and watches message credits |
| What you pay | $5,000 setup + $500/month. No credit pack for the operator engagement. No revenue share. | Free $0 / 50 credits (agent deleted after 14 days idle). Hobby $40/month / 700 credits. Standard $150/month / 4,000 credits. Pro $500/month / 15,000 credits. Extra agents $25/month. Remove “Powered by Chatbase” $99/month. Auto-recharge $40 per 1,000 credits. Enterprise custom. | What readers pay | You set it. Checkout on Woo, Kajabi, Stripe, or Whop | You assemble billing. Chatbase is sold as a business support tool, not an author subscription product. |
| Citations | Cited answers, or it says it does not know. We will demo a refusal. | Trained on your content. Confirm current citation behavior in their product. |
| Channels | Site embed; optional in-chat voice | Chat, and on Standard+ their page lists helpdesk, voice, telephony, and outbound campaigns — a Chatbase strength for support teams. |
| Time to live | About one week after we have your material | Self-serve: you can have an agent during the free or Hobby plan if your corpus is ready |
| Proof | Ask Marcus Aurelius, Ask Nietzsche, Imbalance of Like (free) | Chatbase publishes business customer stories on the pricing page. Verify current names there. |
A free tier. A public credit grid. Fast embed. Voice and telephony on paid plans. If you want a support chatbot your team will run, Chatbase is the more honest tool. Scriptus is not trying to be a $40/month helpdesk seat.
The engagement includes the product around the model: identity, entitlements, durable history, reader commerce. You are not buying $40 per 1,000 extra credits. We will show a question the bot refuses. Checkout stays on your rail with no Scriptus cut.
Hobby at $40/month is cheaper than Scriptus as a line item. It is also 700 message credits and a DIY agent. When the bot is a reader-facing product, credits become the real cost.
Pro at $500/month is accidentally the same number as the Scriptus retainer and still does not include someone who will ingest your book, set the trial, and stand behind the embed. White-label is a $99/month add-on on the public page, not the default.

There is no import of a Chatbase agent into Scriptus. We train on your source material again. Export anything you still need before you cancel. Parallel run is possible until the new embed is signed off.
Choose Chatbase if you want a DIY support agent you will operate. Choose Scriptus if you want one book working as a product. Choose SiteGPT if you specifically want that other widget. If you only need anonymous Q&A over a PDF, use NotebookLM.
For authors who want a branded book bot without a credit meter, yes. For support teams buying an agent builder, Chatbase is the category product.
No. Subscriber revenue is yours.
Those are builder features. Scriptus is an implementation: citations as the offer, entitlements, and commerce on the rail you already use. You can assemble that on Chatbase. That is a project.
The operator engagement is not sold as a 700-credit pack. Reader access is the trial or the subscription you set.
